To begin receiving services.....
Register with the WorkForce WV Center nearest you or go on line at www.state.wv.us/BEP/. You will be asked to provide information about your work history, occupational skills, previous education and training. This will help the Workforce WV staff assist you in your job search.
The steps listed below are Core Services which are available free of charge to everyone, and include—but are not limited to—the following:
- Job Service Registration
- Unemployment Compensation (if eligible)
- Help in filling out work applications
- Internet access to job search websites
- Help in writing your resume and cover letter
- Help with interviewing skills
- Basic Skills Testing (math and reading)
- Career/Job exploration and counseling
Labor Market Information:
- What jobs are available? What are the rates of pay?
- Referral to relief/support services.
- Referral to basic training opportunities to improve math and/or reading skills, obtaining your GED, and refreshing your typing skills
Here's how the Workforce Investment Act defines.....
DISLOCATED WORKER
"One who has been laid off, or received a notice of termination or lay-off, and who is eligible for or has exhausted entitlement to unemployment, and is unlikely to return to a previous industry or occupation."
DISPLACED HOMEMAKER
"Spouse who has been providing unpaid services to family members in the home and who has been dependent on the income of another family member, but is no longer supported by that income, and is unemployed or underemployed and is experiencing difficulty in getting a job or getting a better job."
